Mitzpe Ramon Boulder
In northern Mitzpe Ramon, TAMAR Group, together with Netivei Israel, dismantled an 800-ton boulder threatening to collapse from a 40-meter cliff onto Route 40 — a key highway in the Negev.
Due to its proximity to road infrastructure and overhead power lines, a highly precise demolition was required. TAMAR designed a two-stage engineering solution using advanced civilian blasting techniques:
-
Presplitting – Pre-drilled, dense boreholes created a fracture line to isolate the blast zone and prevent shock to nearby equipment.
-
Decked Charges – Layered charges with delayed detonations broke the rock gradually, avoiding sudden collapse and protecting the environment and wildlife.
The operation used 25 boreholes and 78 tons of explosives, executed in a precisely timed, controlled sequence.
The project was fully coordinated with environmental and regulatory authorities, including wildlife evacuation to minimize ecological impact.
