Ktora Boulder
In the Ketura Junction area of the Arava, TAMAR Group, in collaboration with Netivei Israel and environmental and security authorities, led a complex operation to dismantle a 120-ton boulder that posed a major safety threat to Route 40.
Due to its sensitive location within a steep cliff, traditional drilling and blasting methods were ruled out, as they could trigger a full collapse. Instead, TAMAR developed and implemented a first-of-its-kind method in Israel, using IDF anti-tank missiles.
The charges were mounted along a steel cable at calculated standoff distances, allowing optimal shaped charge impact. The precision setup enabled deep penetration into the rock, breaking it into small fragments without damaging the road or environment.
The blast was conducted remotely and safely. The project, supported by multiple national agencies, was praised for its engineering innovation and environmental care.
